News website which kids can use to release their boredom

News reading is an important literacy practice that, among other things, helps students become responsible citizens, raises their critical media awareness, and connects them to the global world. News websites are abundantly present in the virtual sphere, this has  been amplified with the use of social media websites to the extent that it becomes increasingly hard to weed out fake news from real news.

As teachers and educators, we need to make sure our students and kids have the tools and know-how that can enable them to critically evaluate news sources and determine their credibility.

These are websites that provide news stories curated specifically for a young audience. Some of these websites, besides covering timely news stories and events, also include literacy tools and assessment activities to aid students in their comprehension. In today’s post we are introducing you our favourite news sources to use with students and even kids.

1- HuffPost Teens

The popular Huffington Post has this special section where it features news specifically for a young audience.

2- TIME for Kids

CFN is a fortnightly newspaper that is published in a 8 page tabloid format. The issue contains multiple sections for Features and News, which is further categorized into India, World and Sports news.

The weekly paper also contains a “Special Report” that takes up one topic and discusses it in depth. The theme is always topical. In recent issues we have focussed on the Census, Earth Hour and Climate Change and Democracy. All this content is also available on the web in the “Deep Dive” section.
